Guideline for the
Be Creative ~“Pays to Read”
program for Washington County

1. Dollars may only be spent in the County that they are issued: Vernon , Wausau, and Country Oaks library are in Washington County. The store for these “bucks” is located in Chipley.
2. Store items may be purchased with library “bucks” only: No cash.
3. If you live out of the town of Chipley you may reserve your purchase through your closest library.
4. All reading log times must be initialed by your parent or legal guardian.
5. Book review forms must be filled out at your nearest library location. You may not bring in a filled out book review form from home. If you need assistance filling out the form, please set up a time in advance so that volunteers may be available to help.
6. Some items are limited: first come, first serve.
7. Books must be on your reading level or higher. Parents may be asked to verify your reading level if library staff feel it is necessary.
8. Library staff reserves the right to limit the total reading time per week if they feel it is necessary. ($4 bucks is equal to 7 hours of reading for the upper grades)
9. Library staff reserves the right to call or question parents about books read.
10. You do not have to be present for the drawing in order to win the laptop, mp3 player or other cool prizes.
11. Extra “buck” items include nonfiction, biographies, and classics. One extra buck per book.
12. An extra “buck” will be given out for attending a library program.
13. If you register for the drawing in more than one county, you may not win more than one prize.
14. Store hours will be posted. Shopping at other times will be possible only when library staff is available.
15. Buck are earned by reading: K-3/30 minutes equal $1.00, 4-12 /100 minutes equals $1.00, preschool read to me 30 minutes equals $1.00.
16. Time logs must include at least 2 library books.
17. Audio books do not count for “bucks” unless the book accompanies the audio and you are reading along with the audio.
18. Participants that do not follow these guidelines will be disqualified.
